Afroz Baig for Development Director
To My Fellow College Democrats:
My name is Afroz Baig and I am a rising junior at Bates College, double majoring in Politics and Women & Gender Studies. I am first and foremost a Democrat because I believe that all citizens should have the right to attain equality: equality in healthcare, equality in wages, equality in marriage, and equality of self-expression in our Armed Forces (just to name a few). During the last presidential election, students across Maine came out in full force, volunteering their time and energy to ensure a victory for the Democratic Party, and America. It is important for College Democrats across the state to harness that energy and put it to use for the upcoming election in 2010 to ensure that the progress we made during the last election cycle is not lost.
Last election cycle I served as the Southern Maine Deputy Field Coordinator for Students for Barack Obama. This experience greatly expanded my knowledge about the Maine College Democrats, and their existence on various Maine campuses. Additionally, this summer I am interning in the office of Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey (6th District, CA). I will draw from both these experiences to perform my tasks as Development Coordinator.
I am truly excited for the future of the Maine College Democrats, and look forward to working with all of you! As College Democrats, we have shown that our efforts are worthwhile, and it is imperative that we continue to stay committed to ensuring a victorious 2010!
Best,
Afroz Baig ‘11
